The Red-winged Blackbird is part of a series of eight North American birds. I picked ones that remind me of the times as a child that I went to spend time with my grandparents at their farm in the summer. I remember sitting with my grandma in her garden full of beautiful flowers. She would tell me stories of her childhood and I was captivated. It was in those moments everything felt right in the world, where I would drink in the sights, sounds of the birds and the smell of the flowers surrounding us. There was a sense of peace and calm, and time seemed to slow down. It seemed other worldly to this city kid who longed to live in the country. They were magical times. These birds were a few of my grandma's favorites. This was always my favorite bird, they were bold and not afraid to chase off hawks from their nests.
